On a day to day basis you will be responsible for taking escalations from other engineers, directly liaising with clients over the phone and sometimes face to face. Working through tickets around common email and desktop issues but also much more complex issues around server performance, network speeds, firewall rules and connectivity issues. The broad variety of clients and technologies make this role incredibly interesting and diverse. Yet with other technical people around you to help, you'll never be left high and dry, even if you are thrown in the deep end.... and that was one of the worst examples of mixed metaphors I've used for quite a while.. ;-)  

Attention to detail, doing a job well, and being on top of your game technically are all essential attributes for this role. You will need to have outstanding customer service communication skills be able to work in a team and have solid, broad tech skills. If you work for or have worked for a Managed Services Provider or IT company looking after small and mid market businesses then you are in the box seat for this role. It will involve mainly support with some project work but the work will always be very varied due to the different nature of the clients that are supported.

Strong Administration and Support experience with the following technologies are needed or desired–

  • Windows Desktops in AD environments
  • Windows Server 2008/2012
  • Exchange 2007/2010/2013 and Office 365
  • Azure and Public Cloud technologies
  • Citrix and terminal services
  • Sharepoint
  • Active Directory, Group Policy
  • Good network troubleshooting skills
  • Virtualisation experience – Hyper V preferred
